"To more and more people, massage is as central to physical well-being as a low-fat diet and regular exercise."

HEALTH Magazine.

"I have been getting massages from Lightning Bodies every week for one year.  My husband gave me a massage gift certificate for Christmas, and after I had my first appointment I knew this was something I would continue for a long time.  I have arthritis in every joint of my body and massage is such a wonderful pain therapy treatment.  I can really feel the difference after a massage.   I can move around much easier and my body is more relaxed.  The massage therapy program is wonderful.  I wish I had discovered it a long time ago."

What is Massage?

Massage is the most fundamental of all healing techniques. Massage is so basic to nature that we do it automatically not realizing that we practice massage to ease the pain when we bump our arm.  If you have some arthritis in your finger or hand, you "massage" it to relieve the pain.  This is a natural reaction and is an attempt to heal the soreness.  The other way is to take an aspirin or advil or some form of pain killer.  Lightning Bodies advocates the natural way of healing or taking care of that pain through touch which is "simple, instinctive, and more powerful than we can imagine."   Through regular treatments, our natural therapeutic massage way of healing one can actually eliminate the need for drugs and medicines which can become temporary fixes.

Massage can also reduce stress, alleviate depression, boost the immune system, and can help pre-mature babies catch up in their development.  Without touch humans closed down, but with touch we love, communicate, and nurture one another.  So massage is not just a profession for a special few, it is part of the healing we all possess.

Because massage is naturally healing, its therapeutic use dates back as far as mankind. Ancient Greek, Roman, and Oriental medical treatises describe in detail how and when massage should be used. In the Western world it fell out of favor in the Middle Ages as the church regarded the body as sinful. But, by the 1800's, a new interest in massage was started in Sweden, and today there are many popular modalities of therapeutic massage and bodywork.  Lightning Bodies practices several different modalities to include:  Reflexology (foot and hand massage), Therapeutic Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Relaxation Massage to name a few.  As you read our web-site, we will take the time to explain each of these modalities allowing you to understand the treatment and what to expect from our professional Massage Therapists (MT).

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is a therapeutic approach that works to improve a person's health through hands-on mobilization of muscles and other soft tissues of the body.

Each massage session is tailored to an individual's specific needs.  Far beyond simply"felling good," a massage can be beneficial for everyone, from infants to adults.

The different modalities of therapeutic massage perform by Lightning Bodies staff range from deep neuromuscular therapy to shiatsu, acupressure, Swedish, reflexology and relaxation massage.  We are dedicated to providing a massage program that will help the healing of mind, body and spirit.

Benefits of Massage

Massage provides therapeutic benefits.  Scientific research shows that massage can reduce heart rates, lower blood pressure, relax muscles and improve range of motion.  Massage complements traditional healthcare by soothing a number of ailments such as arthritis, backaches and headaches.  Massage can also relieve fatigue, reduce tension and anxiety, calm the nervous system and promote a sense of relaxation and renewed energy.  This i turn increases circulation and promotes a faster recovery from injury and surgery.

Staff

Lightning Bodies massage therapists are licensed through the Virginia Board of Nursing and the National Certified Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.  All of our massage therapists are CPR certified and are members in good standing with the American Massage Therapy Association.
